Amarone is an Italian DOCG denomination from Valpolicella in the province of Verona, within the large Veneto region near to Venice. Grapes harvested in the first two weeks of October are left to dry, traditionally on straw mats for traditionally 120 days. The final result is a very ripe, raisiny, full-bodied wine with very little acid. Alcohol content often surpasses 15% and the wine is rarely released until five years after the vintage. Expect aromas of cherry liqueur, black fig, cinnamon and plum sauce. On the palate flavours of black cherries, brown sugar and chocolate and usually offers a long and lasting taste. One of our favourites.
